About

Digital Auras was a workshop that aimed to explore our relationship with social media and digital culture. Drawing on research into the psychological effects as well as consequences of social media use, participants were invited to interview each other through questionnaires that asked about their digital behaviors.

Throughout this, a facilitated discussion encouraged dialogue amongst participants, who shared their results and the difference between their online perceptions of themselves and each other. Based on the Algorithm each participant is assigned an Aura Colour, in the form of physical cards that they can use to reflect on and
take away.

Workshop at
the Tate Modern

We debuted this workshop at the Tate Modern as part of the programming for Hyphen Labs. Their exhibition tackled the themes of technological interdependency, privacy issues, and the consequences of the unchecked digital life. Using aura visualization as a metaphor for how to depict the digital energy one externalizes based on an individual's online habits and actions, participants in the workshop received a visual representation according to their ‘online persona’ revealed by the algorithm which they can discuss with their groups.

The group was then invited to create a set of guidelines based on their reflections in the workshop, asking them to imagine what future courses of action they can imagine for themselves as they continue to be connected to the online world.
